A seductive fusion of the old and the avant-garde, Amsterdam is a beautiful city creative heritage. Walk along the cobbled streets and serene canals and you seem a million miles from the bustling night life around the corner. Dam Square lies at the heart of the city and the site of the original Amstel dam. At the heart of the square, the Royal Palace. Originally, the town hall, it became the next Prince Louis-Napoleon’s coronation in 1808.
Anne Frank’s House
In close proximity to the Square, Anne Frank’s house have a permanent reminder of the Nazi occupation during the Second World War. Her famous diary kept here; be prepared to queue, it will be very busy during the tourist season.
Rijksmuseum
The fabulous Rijksmuseum is home to some of the most important historical art in the world. Perhaps the most famous pieces are here to Rembrandt, the works of Frans Hals and Vermeer also feature prominently. Beautiful examples of porcelain dolls and dolls’ houses I saw.
Van Gogh Museum
Another unmissable illustration of fine art is exhibited in the purpose built Van Gogh Museum. Including many of his finest pieces, the Van Gogh Museum houses the largest collection of his work in the world.
Albert Cuypmarkt
If you feel the need to shop, the Albert Cuypmarkt offers just about everything you could want to buy. This cosmopolitan shopping region on the credit card fixed.
Queen’s Day
The view is that, behold, the Queen’s Day celebration, the gay and lesbian. Music is pumped from every corner, as what appears to be the world’s population gays off to Amsterdam.
Vondelpark Summer
This summer festivals are held between June and August and services for all forms of outdoor entertainment including concerts, theater and cabaret. Enjoy the fun of men, women and children of all ages.
Dutch Festival
The Dutch certainly enjoy their festivals, it is the largest annual arts event in the country, and will continue for three weeks in June.
Dutch Clogs
You can not visit Holland without at least trying a few of the famous wooden clogs. Other iconic souvenirs include Dutch dolls and Delft pottery. Cheese and the famous windmills are very popular.
Grand Cafes
Amsterdam’s notorious cafes are spread densely throughout the city. Take a well deserved break, and then try the local erwtensoep as wet the whistle.
